Most motion packs are delivered as looping video files because that format is portable, but Android still needs a compatible system feature or wallpaper app to display the loop behind your icons. Check support before buying a pack solely for one device.
Compatibility
A video file is not automatically an installable wallpaper. Support varies by Android version, manufacturer and the wallpaper app you choose; confirm the exact MP4 or WebM codec and size requirements before relying on a file.
- Some phones support video only on the lock screen, only on the Home Screen or not at all without a third-party app.
- GIF may be shown as a static image and is usually less efficient than a supported video loop.
- Third-party wallpaper apps have their own privacy, advertising and file-format policies; review them before installation.
- Audio is generally not part of the wallpaper experience even when the source video contains sound.
- Motion can increase power use, heat and distraction compared with a static image.
Steps
-
Read the product format and dimensions
Confirm that the pack includes a common video format accepted by your chosen wallpaper method and a portrait version suitable for your screen. Exact support belongs to the device or app, not the video file itself.
-
Check built-in video wallpaper support
Look in your phone's Wallpaper settings or Gallery menu for an option to apply a video. If no such option exists, you may need a reputable third-party live-wallpaper app.
-
Review any third-party app first
Check its developer, permissions, privacy information, recent reviews and whether it works with your Android version. A wallpaper app should not require unrelated access simply to select a local video.
-
Import and crop the loop
Choose the downloaded motion file, preview the crop and keep the main subject clear of the clock and icon rows. Disable audio if the app exposes an audio option.
-
Test power and performance
Use the wallpaper for a day and watch battery use, device temperature and animation smoothness. Switch to the included static version if performance or comfort is worse.
Troubleshooting
The file plays in Gallery but cannot be selected as wallpaper
Your device may not support that video format as a wallpaper. Use a compatible app or the static image supplied with the pack.
The loop stutters or stops
Battery optimization may pause the wallpaper app, or the file may be too demanding for the device. Review the app's supported settings or choose a lower-motion static alternative.
The phone battery drains faster
Reduce motion use, choose a shorter or lower-frame-rate loop if the app supports it, or return to the static wallpaper.
